DOES GOD BRING STORMS INTO OUR LIVES?
Sometimes God does bring the storm.
Hear me out.
I used to believe that God never SENT bad things to happen, but He would USE bad things for his ultimate glory.
Then I started studying the book of Jonah last week.
And God did, indeed, send the storm.
When I think of storms, I’m often reminded of the New Testament account of Jesus calming the storm.
So a storm must equal bad. Right?
What has captured my heart in studying Jonah is that the storm God sent was an act of LOVE and MERCY.
(Any other church kids grow up thinking it was punishment???)
You see, Jonah had started down a path of self-destruction that could have eternal impacts.
Jonah was headed in the direction of spiritual death. The worst kind.
God could have let Jonah continue that way. After all, he was disobeying God.
BUT in God’s great love he pursued Jonah and sent the storm to redirect Jonah’s heart.
God pursues us.
God rescues us.
This requires us to really grow in Holy Spirit discernment.
Is our current storm one where we need to call out to Jesus for protection?
Or is our current storm one where God is graciously trying to redirect our hearts?
Turns out not all storms are bad.
But they ALL will point to God’s sovereignty and love.
Have you read the book of Jonah? How has it changed your perspective on life’s storms?
