Join Carla in this transformative episode as she guides you through the practical process of renewing your mind and embracing the freedom that comes from living in truth. Gain valuable insights and practical tools to navigate the journey of renewing your thought patterns. Don't miss this empowering discussion that will inspire and equip you to experience true mind renewal and lasting transformation..

Key Takeaways:

- Our thoughts produce feeling, feeling provoke action (or inaction), which creates behaviors that make patterns in our life - and we end up living in the confinement of our thoughts. Our life is really just a compilation of our thoughts and habits. This is why it is important for us to take control of our thought life!

- Cognitive behavioral theory is the practice of renewing your mind, taking thoughts captive and renewing them with truth.

- Our thoughts can create an identity - if we think we are not good enough, can’t overcome our past, or if we believe all the lies shame tells us, this locks us into an identity that keeps us from walking in freedom.

- This is not about ignoring or distracting yourself from negative thoughts, but taking them captive by calling them out and measuring them against truth. Our thoughts and our feelings are NOT fact or truth. The truth is found in Christ.

- This process doesn’t just include uprooting lies in your mind, but replanting and nurturing truth in their place. Truth is found in the Word of God.

- The Helmet of Salvation protects your mind, and, at its core, is believing who God is and accepting the identity He has given us through Jesus Christ.

- Speaking truth to our mind activates the Sword of the Spirit - the Word of God.

Carla’s Process:

  1. 1. Compile a written list of lies in your head that formed your belief system (ie, “There’s no way God can use me”, “My past is too big to overcome” etc)

  2. 2. Go to the word of God and do a deep dive on biblical identity - see what God truth has to say about YOU. You can use the Bible app, or Google to find scriptures!

  3. 3. Take the truths you find and write out affirming truths (this is actually how Affirming Truths started!) and rehearse them. You can use Affirming Truths to help you overcome.

  4. 4. When the lie invades your mind, you can speak out an affirming truth and supporting scripture:

    1. Ex, when the lie “I can’t overcome my past” comes to my mind, I say “I am free” because “whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” (John 8:36)

- There is a BATTLE raging for your mind - if the enemy can disrupt your mind, he can steal your soul. If he can have you overcome with fear, anxiety, lust, bitterness. Battle and victory are in the mind, because that’s where the transformation happens first!

- You have to know what the Truth is - getting in the Word is the key to getting equipped to renew your mind!

Affirmation

I can renew my mind by taking my thoughts captive and replacing them with truth.

- I am treasured.

- I am beloved.

- I am a royal priesthood.

- I am a joint heir with Christ.

- I am redeemed in Christ
