S4 EP11 | Identity Series: The Victim Mindset. Part 4 of 4
This is a challenging episode. It’s challenging because Carla knows that many people have been victims of abuse in their life, and that has left a deep wound. But Carla also knows from personal experience, that identifying as a victim and living in a victim mindset is detrimental to living the full life God has planned for us.
In Christ, we are free.
Be encouraged to break the chains of this identity and find freedom and hope in Jesus.
The Pitfalls of Victim Mindset
Stops you from growing
Inhibits your calling
Stops you from reaching your full potential as a child of God
Keeps you locked in unforgiveness & bitterness
Stops you from taking ownership of your life
Robs you of Godly stewardship
How to Know You Have a Victim Mindset
NOTE - there is a difference between being a victim and having a victim mindset. As a victim, you are not responsible for your trauma, but you can take control of your actions.
How to know you have a victim mindset:
You constantly blame others for you circumstances
You ask yourself and God “Why is it always me?”
You see the world & people as always against you
You are staying stuck in misery
You are waiting to be “saved” from your circumstance rather than look to grow or move out of them
How to Leave Behind a Victim Mindset
It all starts in your thoughts. You can’t control what comes to mind, but you can control what stays in your mind. How can you be a good steward of thoughts?
Ask yourself “How would my life look different if I took responsibility for my choices?” or declare “I am not going to blame my circumstances on others”.
Are you thanking God? Are you walking in a posture of gratitude?
Work with God to eradicate shame in your life. Shame locks us in a victim mindset and plays a role in robbing us of becoming empowered children of God.
Therapy is a HUGE tool available to you to leave behind the victim mindset. Work with a professional who empowers you to focus your mind on healing, not staying stuck in the waves and the storm.
You reap what you sow - it is time to sow hope, faith, joy, peace and gratitude! Time to leave behind resentment, unforgiveness and bitterness - it’s all on the other side of identifying as a free child of God.
Affirming Truth - I am not my past or circumstances, I am free in Christ to do His will.
