Morning routines are such an important way to start the day - and including Jesus in that routine is paramount!  But what does a morning routine look like?  How can we start one - and stick with it when depression or anxiety creeps in?  In this episode Carla chats with Kari Davis from the The Well Health & Wholeness Podcast.

  • Carla opens by introducing Kari Davis and invites her to share about her life and her ministry. She shares how her passion for holistic self care came out of her grief journey and taking back her life. 

  • Carla asks Kari “Why are morning routines so important?” Kari shares that whatever you focus on, gets bigger. “When I put good in, it pushes the bad out” and how the tone is set for the day when you start it filled and not empty. 

  • Carla asks Kari what her morning routine looks like and how she developed it. Kari shares how movement (like a walk or workout while listening ) helped start her day, especially when she was in the grieving process and running her own business from her home. She also shared how she is affected by her environment, so taking time to tidy a space for her to have devotional time is important. She shares the process of learning is in discipline - how we learn who we are and who God is. 

  • Carla shares how quiet time doesn’t need to be a long time - how she found starting her day with 10 minutes of quiet time and reflecting on gratitude helped her to fill out a morning routine over time. 

  • Kari shares it can be the same or even different each day! A schedule can help you take the guesswork out of the morning. She shares tips on stacking up the little things to care for your body. She also shares tips to quiet your mind to give your space to go deeper. It’s important to know how much you have time for!

  • Carla shares how she clings to her morning routine to support her mental health, but how she has episodes or seasons that makes her morning routine so difficult. She asks Kari to share tips on how to get into a morning routine in this instance. Kari shares that being intentional, even if you are passively listening to music or devotions, is super important. Carla expands that having grace for yourself by being flexible with your routine can help you stay in the discipline. 

  • Carla shares that starting your day on a firm foundation is important as it keeps you from being tossed around in the circumstances in life.
