[00:00:30] Carla: I am so glad you're here. Let's get started. Hey friends, it's Carla here, your friend and host of Affirming Truth. Welcome to this bonus episode. I have a shorty but a goody for you today. The other day, my husband and I were talking about Proverbs 3, 5 to 6, and it is so rich. And it has so much truth and so much value [00:01:00] for us that I want to take you into a little bit of a deeper dive into the scripture.

[00:01:05] Carla: Are you with me? Let's do it. Proverbs 3:5 to 6, it says, trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him and he will make your path straight. I'm sure you guys have heard this many times before, but I want us to really, really. Think that the truth of this scripture into our minds into our hearts.

[00:01:34] Carla: So let's break it down Trust in the Lord trust in who the Lord not the government Not your instincts Not what the news says but trust in the Lord. Why the Lord? Listen guys, he is the creator of heaven and earth. He has [00:02:00] dominion over everything. He is in the same moment in the past, in the present, in the future.

[00:02:07] Carla: He sees all, he knows all. What better person to trust, because not only does he see all and know all, his heart intention for you is your good. And he is the only one who can bring about the absolute good in your life. So trust in the Lord. He has all the credentials to back that up. And trust in the Lord with what?

[00:02:35] Carla: It says with your heart, not with your mind. Right? The mind plays tricks. There's a battle in your mind. It's not to rationalize or intellectualize Christ. It is to know him in your heart and to trust him in your heart, right? Like when you trust your spouse, for example, it's not [00:03:00] just, well, he's my spouse. I should trust him.

[00:03:02] Carla: It's not just that head knowledge. It's the heart knowledge. You know him, you know, his character, you know what he's about, you know, he's steadfast, you know, he's faithful. You can trust in him. So you trust with your heart, with that relationship, with that experience. You trust with your heart, having already seen, if you open your eyes, God's fingerprints everywhere in your life.

[00:03:33] Carla: And do not lean on your own understanding. Leaning is getting support, right? When we lean on something, we are getting support. We are being supported to stand. We are being supported to stay upright. We are not supposed to support ourselves with our own understanding. We are not meant to be held upright by our own understanding.

[00:03:59] Carla: We are [00:04:00] not to do that guys. Our, our support is the firm foundation, the rock of ages. Christ Jesus, our Lord and God, our Savior, that is who we lean on. That is the support we want, not ourselves, but God. Do not lean on your own understanding, guys. That means do not lean on how you can rationalize things, how you can intellectualize things.

[00:04:32] Carla: It says in the Word that we do not have the mind of Christ. His ways are above our ways. He is God. If we could understand Him and predict Him, then we would not be the created. We would be the creator. But we don't know all his ways. We are not gods. We're not mini gods. We're his children, [00:05:00] but we are not God.

[00:05:03] Carla: And so we cannot lean on our own understanding. We have to lean on the truth that we know about God's character, that he is fully just, that he is fully merciful, that he is full of grace, that he is all powerful, that he is our provider, that he is our healer. God is what we lean on, not our own understanding, but who God is.

[00:05:32] Carla: In all your ways, acknowledge him. What does that mean? That means we don't just acknowledge him with our mouths, although that's important, but we also acknowledge him in our action. That we act according to faith. That we tithe according to faith. That we worship according to faith. That our lives are lived out in accordance with [00:06:00] faith.

[00:06:00] Carla: In all our ways, we acknowledge him. How we show up to our workplace. Even in those toxic environments, we acknowledge him by being his ambassadors, how we bless a neighbor who is struggling. We acknowledge him, how we receive blessing from others in our struggle. We acknowledge him. We praise him. Even when the situation looks bleak, we don't trust our circumstance.

[00:06:32] Carla: We don't look to our circumstance. We work, look to our king. Who has promised to provide just like he provides for the sparrows. He knows we have needs and he's faithful to provide. So we acknowledge him and he will make your path straight, not your boss. Not the government, not your own [00:07:00] doing, but he will make your path straight.

[00:07:04] Carla: See, when you acknowledge him, that means each step you take, you're taking in accordance to where he's leading and where he's leading you is on the straight and narrow road, where he is leading you is in his will and his will is the best place to be protection, rest, blessing, provision, guidance. That's all found walking in his will.

[00:07:31] Carla: When you're in his will, you have everything that you need because he equips you for what he calls you to. You may not understand it. He may not show you the full staircase, but he will equip you one step at a time for where he's calling you. And you know, we were looking at this verse with my husband based on some things happening in his career and his job.

[00:07:56] Carla: And it was a reminder. For him [00:08:00] that his boss is not in control of his career or our finances, even though everything is not looking to be in Terry's favor. We know that God works all things out for good. So we're not going to trust based on the circumstance, no, we're going to trust based on the character of God.

[00:08:25] Carla: We're going to trust him with our heart. We're not going to support and uphold ourselves with our own, uh, logical thinking. No, we're going to lean on Jesus Christ. And in every step we take, we are going to acknowledge his goodness and his sovereignty over our situations. And as we do that, He will make our path straight.

[00:08:50] Carla: He will work all things out for our good and His glory. So I want you to see this verse with fresh [00:09:00] eyes and appropriate it in your life today. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight. I'll talk to you next time.

[00:09:23] Carla: Thanks for joining me today. I hope we're already friends on social media, but if we're not, come find me on Instagram at Karla Arges or at Affirming Truth. Can't wait to see you back here next week. Bye, friends.
